الملخص

This scholarly study examines the Rumiyyat of Abu Firas al-Hamdani by highlighting two
fundamental dimensions within these poems: the human dimension, embodied in the captive's
appeal, and the artistic dimension, reflected in the prince’s poetic genius. The study aims to
elucidate the manner in which Abu Firas articulated his suffering during captivity, exploring
themes born of his incarceration—namely feelings of longing, nostalgia, and dignity, alongside
his appeals to Sayf al-Dawla for ransom, while asserting his psychological resilience and refusal
to submit to the Byzantines. The study reached several key findings, most notably the
identification of a sophisticated artistic style that mirrors the persona of the "cultured prince"
and the "warrior-poet." This style is characterized by emotional sincerity and a unique synthesis
of pride (Fakhr) and pathos, combined with expressive power and a meticulous depiction of
sentiment. Consequently, his artistic mastery served to veil his underlying psychological
inclinations. Furthermore, the study highlights his linguistic clarity, rhetorical eloquence, and
responsiveness to his environment and context, all while maintaining the organic unity of his
poems. Ultimately, the research demonstrates the preeminence of Abu Firas al-Hamdani’s poetic
faculty, despite the intricate interplay between the psychological and artistic aspects of his work.
The study employs a descriptive-analytical methodology.
