الملخص
The study aimed to identify the level of perceived national identity among students of
Gedaref University, as well as to understand the threats to the perceived national identity among
young students. It also sought to identify statistically significant differences at the significance
level of α = 0.05 that could be attributed to study variables such as gender, age, and major. The
study adopted a descriptive approach and involved students from the Faculty of Education, Basic
Education Program, for the academic year 2023-2024, covering cohorts (20, 21, 22, 23, 24)
totaling 817 students. A sample of 101 students was selected for the study. To collect data and
information, a questionnaire comprising 40 statements was used. Of these, 29 statements focused
on the perceived national identity, and 12 statements on the threats to the perceived national
identity. The questionnaire also included open-ended questions. For statistical processing, the
SPSS program was used to calculate means and standard deviations, as well as to determine the
values of the Chi-square and F-tests to identify significant differences at the significance level of
α = 0.05 attributed to study variables such as gender, age, and major. The study reached the
following key findings: The perceived national identity among students of the Basic Education
Program at Gedaref University was present with a mean score of 1.54, rated as weak. There were
threats to the perceived national identity among students of the Basic Education Program at the
university with a mean score of 1.69, rated as moderate. No statistically significant differences
were found at the significance level of α = 0.05 attributed to gender and age variables.
Statistically significant differences were found at the significance level of α = 0.05 attributed to
the major variable. The study made the following recommendations: Consider diversity in
student admissions to the university to achieve intellectual and cultural integration and to
dissolve tribal and cultural differences, leading to the fusion of customs and traditions among
them.
