الملخص

Literature plays an important role in improving four skills like
listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. The inclusion of in the
language classroom as it provides valuable authentic material,
develops personal involvement and help contribute to readers’ cultural as
well as language enrichment. The study aims at show light to the role of
teaching literature in developing the students vocabulary. To investigate
the problem of teaching and learning literature. The study adopted
descriptive analytical method. The study found that: Reading literature
helps students to build vocabulary. Teaching literature is very important
for any learner of foreign language and especially English language
.Teaching literature facing a big problem and the teachers have a big role
in shaping this problem .Literature exercises reinforce learners
grammar,learning skills and vocabulary. Teaching literature enhance
students’ language awareness. The study recommended that:The syllabus
of literature should be arranged and organized.Teachers should provide
their students with many vocabulary, so as to help them to understand
literature . Teachers should encourage students to read literary text in and
outside classroom.Teachers should use some techniques in teaching new
English words.Libraries must be included in secondary schools building.
