Negligence of Oral Tests and its Impact on EFL Learner‘s Performance A Case Study of the Tertiary Level, El-Kamleen Locality, Gezira State, Sudan.

الملخص

Abstract

The standard of English among Sudanese schools pupils and universities students has reflected a clear decline; particularly the speaking skill. Regarding this problem, it is thought that the current EFL testing system is responsible for this situation. So this study aimed to find out the causes behind the negligence of testing EFL learners’ oral communication at pre-tertiary level, and what universities should do to overcome this situation. Also it aimed to adopt scientific techniques for testing oral communication, to guarantee fair assessment. A descriptive analytical method was used for collecting data a questionnaire was used. The sample was (50) teachers, selected randomly from Kamleen locality, Gezira state. The study found that testing student’s oral communication particularly speaking skill was neglected at pre-tertiary level due to the lack of awareness of its importance at tertiary level. Also the study found that technological devices aren’t available. The study recommended Universvties should have standard curricula and syllabi set by experts and  should adopt clear-cut methodology to overcome such difficulties. Also teachers, should adopt seminars, presentations, and discussions systematically and gradually.
