الملخص

Back ground: oxygen therapy is the administration of oxygen as a medical
intervention, which can be for a variety of medical conditions. nurses play a
vital role in assessment of need and administration of oxygen in patients at risk
of respiratory dysfunction.This study was conducted to assess nurses’
knowledge regarding Oxygen Therapy. The study used ,descriptive hospital
based study, conducted in emergency department at Ibrahim malik teaching
hospital the study enrolled all nurses available (n=40). During period from
(August to December 2019). Data were collected by using questionnaire
designed for this study. Data was analyzed using statistical package for Social
Sciences (SPSS version 20). Results: study revealed that (52.5%) and (22.5%)
of nurses know hypoxia and low oxygen saturation in blood are indications of
oxygen therapy respectively. (57.5%) of nurses know that nasal cannula is
device that deliver low flow rate of oxygen, regarding how to assess patient need
for oxygen therapy (40%) of nurses stated pulse oximetry. (27.5) of nurses
stated that poor perfusion and Hypothermia are a common factors affecting
accurate pulse oximetry reading. Conclusion: there is a gap in nurse’s
knowledge regarding oxygen therapy
